500 children dead, missing crossing Central Mediterranean Sea
No fewer than 500 children have died and missing crossing the Central Mediterranean Sea, Louise Michel an organization that combines sea rescue with the principles of feminism anti-racism and anti-facism has said.
Writing under the heading ‘500 dead and missing children’ Louise Michel said: “In the last 10 years, at least 500 children have died crossing the Central Mediterranean Sea. Each of these losses is one too many.
“According to records from the International Organization for Migration, 16695 people have died or gone missing while fleeing across the central Mediterranean since 2014. At least 500 of these were children. The true number is higher due to unreported shipwrecks.”
The legitimate desire for a safe life, Louise Michel said , is so high that people on the move have to choose the dangerous route across the #Mediterranean again and again. “Tragically, 2% die during that crossing.
“Everyone has the right to live in peace!
We call on the #EU to invest its funds in protecting refugees and combating the causes instead of criminalising and degrading people escaping conflicts, persecution, and starvation. Shame on you EU.#freedomofmovment.”
