A new born, three minors, and 23 others have reportedly died as two boats capsized off Lampedusa coast.
This was according to information shared on the incident by SOS Humanity (International).
The information reads: “In a shipwreck of two boats off the coast of Lampedusa, at least 27 people lost their lives on Wednesday, three of them minors and one newborn. An unknown number of people are still missing. This shipwreck is the deadliest of 2025 so far.
“We are shocked and outraged. For ten years, we as a civil society have been filling the gap of EU member states not fulfilling their duty to coordinate and rescue. The boats capsized only a few nautical miles from Lampedusa in the Italian search and rescue zone – still, help came too late.”
