Alarm Phone flays detention of Sea Watch International’s aircraft
Alarm Phone, an organization that provides independent support for people crossing the Mediterranean Sea to the EU has decried the detention of Sea Watch International’s aircraft by the Italian authorities.
Sea Watch International is an organization that saves lives in the Mediterranean Sea.
The organization had earlier taken to its X handle to announce the detention of its aircraft by Italy.
The post reads: “Italy detains human rights monitoring aircraft! For the first time, we have been denied permission to fly for 20 days with immediate effect. This marks a new escalation in the Italian government’s fight against civilian human rights observation in the Mediterranean!”
Decrying the Italian authorities’ action, Alarm Phone said: “The detention of the aircraft #Seabird of @seawatch_intl is yet another outrageous assault on the right to document Europe’s border crimes at sea. All our solidarity with #SeaWatch!”
