Nadir supports distressed migrants, harassed by Libyan Coast Guard

The Libyan Coast Guard   has been accused of harassing Nadir in the course of supporting distressed people.

Resqship, an organisation operating monitoring missions in the central Mediterranean, disclosed this on its X handle, @resqship_int.

It said: “Nadir supports 2 distress cases & gets harassed by so-called Libyan Coast Guard: After the plane from @seawatch_intl alerted to several boats in distress the #Nadir could find a rubber boat with 43 people & because water was entering the boat evacuated all to the Nadir.”

The crew, according to Resqship then joined “#Trottamar III from @boat_spotting in a search coordinated by Italian authorities. Late at night they located another rubber boat with 35 people on it. Again, all people were taken aboard the Nadir, who then took course to the assigned port Lampedusa.

It added that shortly after they were harassed by a patrol boat from the “so-called Libyan Coast Guard in Maltese SRR, who engaged in dangerous manoeuvres which led to the Nadir having to change course and to suspend the search for another boat in distress, whose fate is unknown till now

“We are grateful that all 78 survivors were able to disembark safely today. But again, we are shocked by the aggressive behaviour of the Libyan Militias in international waters. We need #safepassage not more border crimes financed by the EU. 📸 Mirjam Reininger.”
