A shipwreck has reportedly left many dead after a pirogue was found stranded off Mamelles beach, in Dakar.
The casualty figure remains unknown but the about 150 were said to be on board, according to AlarmPhone.
Announcing the incident, AlarmPhone said: “Another shipwreck in the Atlantic! A pirogue was found stranded off Mamelles beach in #Dakar yesterday. More than 150 people were on board when it left #Mbour on 13 August, and so far only corpses have been found
“After the shipwreck of #Mbour 15 days ago, it is with great pain and anger that we now learn of this new massacre perpetrated by the border regime.
“This shipwreck could have been avoided if, instead of taking responsibility for border control on behalf of the #EU, #Senegal had put in place real search and rescue resources. We demand justice and truth for the relatives of the victims and freedom of movement for all!”
