Seven dead, several others injured as vehicle conveying Sudanese migrants tumbles

Seven people have reportedly died, and many others injured after a vehicle conveying Sudanese migrants tumbled.

Two other vehicles occupied by another set of Sudanese migrants were in the company of the affected vehicle, according to information provided by Migrant Rescue Watch.

The Migrant Rescue Watch said: “Patrol of DCIM en route to Al ‘Aweinat border crossing encountered (120 km south of Kufra) 3 vehicles carrying large number of #migrants from Sudan. One of the vehicles overturned which resulted in injury of 32 and death of 7 migrants.

“Two other vehicles with smugglers after abandoning passengers in the desert managed to flee. All #migrants were provided with medical assistance by Kufra Ambulance & Emergency Services and the scene was secured by Sabil Al-Salam Border Protection Bn. jointly with DCIM.”

The above information was later updated by Migrant Rescue Watch.

The update reads: “According to Ambulance & Emergency Services in Kufra as a result of the traffic accident in the desert there were 39 injured including 10 intensive care cases and 7 dead. All Sudanese nationals.”
