Eighty distressed people including women, and children have been evacuated.

Resqship said the people were evacuated by Nadir, a civil rescue ship.

They were reported to be among the people who fled Libya in overcrowded boat.

A situation report by Resqship said: “110 people who fled Libya on an overcrowded boat had alerted @alarm_phone about being in distress. Over 50 of them were crammed in the narrow lower deck and had problems breathing, one person at times lost consciousness, when #Nadir found them early this morning.

“The crew evacuated 80 people, including many women and children onto the #Nadir. A few hours later the Italian Coast Guard came and embarked everybody onto their vessel. People are now underway to a Port of Safety in #Lampedusa.”
