Libyan security team raids factory covertly preparing boats for migrant sea crossings
A team of Libyan security operatives has busted a factory where suspects were covertly preparing boats for migrant sea crossings.
Migrant Rescue Watch disclosed this as it as revealed the arrest of undocumented Chadian and Nigerien nationals for drug trafficking.
The organisation said: “Units of Rahba Al-Duru Bn jointly with Department of Operations and National Security conducted raid in Tajoura on a factory for prefabricated homes and containers that was covertly preparing boats for #migrant sea crossings.”
During operation, Migrant Rescue Watch said several employees were arrested and a number of boats confiscated. “An ongoing investigation led to discovery of human smugglers’ names directly responsible for running of the criminal operation.”
In another development, Migrant Rescue Watch said”Reconnaissance patrol of 676 Infantry Bn. carried out raid on suspected criminal den in Umm Al Aranib and arrested on charges of drug trafficking 5 undocumented #migrants of Chadian and Nigerien nationalities.
“During operation, a large quantity of hashish and hallucinogenic pills were also seized. All remain in custody pending referral to public prosecution.”
