Today, 21 May 2024, the trial of Pylos 9 will take place in the court in Kalamata,Greece.

The Pylos9 are the survivors of the June 14 shipwreck off the coast of Pylos, Greece.

The shipwreck claimed over 600 lives.

The concerned survivors were said to have been picked at random and subjected to legal trial.

Commenting on the trial, Alarm Phone said: “Today the trial against the #Pylos9 starts. On June 14th the Adriana sank off the coast of #Pylos, #Greece – in front of the eyes of @HCoastGuard. Over 600 people died. Today, 9 survivors are scapegoated and criminalized.

“Various investigations looked into the capsizing of the boat, collected testimonies of survivors & unveiled inconsistencies in the narrative of @HCoastGuard & their attempt to cover up their failures. Despite this, still 9 survivors stand trial today.”

The NGO said it stands in solidarity with the survivors and relatives. “European authorities could have sent out adequate rescue. They failed to do so. These deaths were preventable. We repeat what we said in our statement on 14th of June, the day of the shipwreck.”

AlarmPhone went ahead to ask the EU and other relevant bodies to “Stop blaming people on the move for trying to escape your violence!
Stop blaming people on the move for their own death!
Stop pushbacks, end death at sea, tear down Europe’s borders!”
