Migrants suffer hypothermia, dehydration after 3 nights at sea
Thirty five migrants who survived distressing nights on the sea are said to have suffered hypothermia and dehydration following their unpleasant experience.
SOS Mediterranee disclosed this on its X handle.
It also announced it’s assignment to the port of Ortona as a place of safety by the Italian authorities.
SOS Mediterranee says: “After an alert from @alarmphone, the #OceanViking found a fiberglass boat with 35 people on board, in the SRR shared by Italy and Malta. Survivors declare having spent 3 nights at sea and suffer from hypothermia and dehydration. Three people are being medically monitored.
“Italian authorities have assigned us the port of Ortona as a Place of Safety, although the rescue took place 8 hours of navigation from Malta and Sicily.
“We are heading to Ortona, on the Adriatic Coast, 2,5 days of navigation away.”
