Sea Watch flays Ylva Johansson’s position on Frontex
Sea Watch International has flayed European Commissioner Ylva Johansson’s position on reforming Frontex, the EU border and coast guard agency.
“I am quite satisfied with the way Frontex works. I don’t think we need a major reform of Frontex.” Ylva had said while reacting to the need to reform the EU border and coast guard agency.
But Sea Watch International described her position as “A cynical charade of hypocrisy.”
“That’s how one could describe the recent statements by European Commissioner Ylva Johansson regarding Frontex,” Sea Watch International said, adding:
“Despite years of criticism and scandals, she brazenly claims that Frontex “has a strong mandate on fundamental rights.
“Frontex’s complicity with brutal Libyan militias, facilitating the abduction of people in distress at sea to torture camps in Libya, has been exposed multiply. Frontex tramples on the rights and dignity of people on the move.”
