MSF rescues 134, Italy assigns Ravenna for safety

One hundred and thirty four distressed migrants have been rescued by MSF Sea.

The Italian authorities, according to MSF Sea, has assigned Ravenna as a place of safety for the rescued people.

“A few hours ago, 134 people have been rescued by our team from of an overcrowded double deck wooden boat, following a distress alert from @alarm_phone,”MSF Sea said.

Many of the survivors, it said now on board #GeoBarents are women and children, including two babies aged less than 3 years old.

MSF Sea added that Ravenna, in the north of #Italy, is the place of safety assigned by the authorities to disembark the 134 people currently on board #GeoBarents.

“A four-day journey and more than 1,600km of navigation for Geo Barents and the survivors.

After a stressful journey at sea, the people rescued are now recovering in the safe environment of #GeoBarents.

“The MSF team is also providing medical consultations and information on how people can receive protection once they arrive in Europe,” it said.
