Seebrüecke International a German organization that wants safe passage and an end to criminalisation of civil sea rescue, has demanded for safe passage and an end to the European policy of sealing people off.

The group disclosed this in a statement while requestingnfoe the abolition of
Piantedosi Decree and the associated practice of allocating distant harbours to NGOs involved in civil rescue.

The statement reads: “Yesterday, the crew of the #Humanity1 assisted the Italian coastguard in rescuing 42 people. The #Seabird Reconnaissance aircraft had previously helped to find the boat. The rescued people were eventually all taken on board by the Italian coastguard and brought to Lampedusa.

“Today, the Seabird1 then found another boat with 71 people on board, which was already taking on water. The #OceanViking from @SOSMedIntl was able to take the people safely on board.

“We demand safe passage and an end to the European policy of sealing people off! The Piantedosi Decree and the associated practice of allocating distant harbours and detaining civilian ships must finally be abolished!”
