NAPTIP parleys INHOPE, ASCAI on addressing child sexual abuse
As part of her efforts towards tackling the menace of sexual abuse of children, Prof. Fatima Waziri–Azi, the Director General of NAPTIP, today, Monday, 29th January 2024 had a productive meeting with INHOPE and ASCAI led by Samantha Woolfe, Head of Network Expansion and Global Partnership, INHOPE.
During the meeting, Ms. Woolfe presented an overview of
INHOPE’s plan to support the establishment of a reporting hotline in Nigeria aimed at addressing issues related to Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM). The primary objective of this reporting platform is to ensure prompt response and take down of CSAM.
The reporting hotline seeks to combat CSAM on a global scale by swiftly removing any offensive child sexual-related content. Notably, this platform will be the second of its kind in Africa, following the successful model implemented in South Africa. Its design aims to enhance the in-house mechanisms of various stakeholders and foster improved synergy among partners across hosting countries.
In her response, Prof. Fatima Waziri–Azi welcomed the project, emphasizing the importance of incorporating issues like sextortion that impact Nigeria.
With the rising cases of sextortion, she stressed the need to scale up awareness in higher institutions and the provision of virtual counseling for victims of these crimes.
This collaboration represents a significant step forward in our ongoing efforts to combat online exploitation and enhance victim support mechanisms.
