DCIM deports 9,505 migrants in 2023
A total of 9,505 migrants were deported by the Department Combating Illegal Migration (DCIM), Libya in 2023.
8,851 of the migrants were repatriated from Qanfoudah Immigration Detention Center in Benghazi, Libya.
Six hundred and fifty four migrants of different nationalities were repatriated from Shahat Immigration Detention Center.
A statement by Migrant Rescue Watch said: “DCIM released deportation statistics for Qanfoudah Immigration Detention Center in Benghazi. In 2023 a total of 8,851 #migrants of different nationalities were repatriated including 1,641 security and 705 medical cases.
“Migrants were repatriated: 4174 via Benina International Airport, 3241 via Emsaed land border crossing, 619 via Immigration Detention and Deportation Center in Kufra and 610 via Immigration Detention Center in Sirte.
Sixteen Nigerians and 638 other migrants of different nationalities were deported from Shahat Immigration Detention Center.
The other nationals included eight Bangladeshi, 56 Chadians, 467 Egyptians, 101 Sudanese and six Syrians.
The statistics is also contained in a statement by the Migrant Rescue Watch.
It said: “DCIM deportation statistics for Shahat Immigration Detention Center. In year 2023 a total 654 #migrants of different nationalities were repatriated including 20 medical cases. Nationalities: Bangladesh 8, Chad 56, Egypt 467, Nigeria 16, Sudan 101 and Syria 6.”
Also providing the summary of meeting held in Benghazi by Minister of Interior Maj.Gen. Issam Abu Zariba with heads of DCIM, Ports Authority and Coastal Security, Migrant Rescue Watch said: “The meeting dealt with working mechanisms needed to reduce the phenomena of illegal immigration and human smuggling.”
