The situation in southern Libya, Kufra , is becoming increasingly hostile to migrants and refugees, Refugees In Libya has said.

Migrants from Eritrea and Ethiopia have reportedly been subjected to all manners of torture and brutality by human traffickers with the intention of extorting money from their victims.
Some of the victims were striped naked and cruelly flogged in viral video circulating online.

Refugees In Libya decried the beastial treatment on the migrants. It said: “And the worst thing is that the traffickers enjoy the support of the police and intelligence security agencies in the region.

“@Dabaibahamid and @NajlaElmangoush have been alerted to these matters of human trafficking on a wide scale but no attempt has been made to combat these criminal and organised crimes.”

Mesoud Abdulwasi’, an Eritrean from Southern Zone, Mendefera Sub-Zone,: according to Refugees In Libya is among the many victims “we have recently published and most the videos seem to come from one place in Kufra, inhabited by human-warehouses for extortion purposes.

“Mesoud’s account from relatives says that he left his country to Ethiopia and therefore escaped to Sudan and when the conflict erupted in Sudan in early April, Mesaoud fled alongside many others to Libya and ever then he’s been held captive by human trafficking gangs in Kufra, Southern Libya in demand of 7500 American dollars.

“Mesoud according to the investigation our team are doing is not the only victim being held in this particular warehouse in Kufra.

“In Bani Walid, a number of the one time dismantled human trafficking network are being revived.”
