Eight years after his death, organisations and individuals across the globe have continued mourning Alan Kurdi.

Alan Kurdi died at the sea at the age of two. He was a Syrian refugee.

Among the organisations that are remembering him today are Refugees Council, Open Arms ENG, and Care4Calais.

Below are their comments:

Refugee Council: 8 years ago the devastating image of a child who had died at sea united the world in grief. The child was Alan Kurdi, a Syrian refugee. He was just 2 years old.

Our thoughts are with his family on this day. We must do all we can to prevent this from happening in the future.

Open Arms ENG: 8 years since #AlanKurdi.
How many mothers, fathers, daughters, sons without a name have died since then in seas, deserts or walled borders?
People who fled war or dreamed of a better future are no longer here.
Only solidarity and the struggle of civil society will make life.

Care4Calais: Eight years ago, we woke up to one of the most horrifying, heartbreaking pictures most of us had ever seen: the image of two-year-old Syrian refugee Alan Kurdi washed up on Turkish beach.

What are we to make of the response to that image eight years on?🧵
