They stole our money in Tunisia, refused to sell food, water to us
A migrant has recounted how he and others were dehumanized , robbed and denied access to basic necessities of life in Tunisia.
The Migrant identified simply as Y shared his experience in a chat with Emergency NGO.
EMERGENCY is an international humanitarian organisation that provides free, high-quality care to people affected by war and poverty.
Sharing his experience, he said: “I was held prisoner for 18 months in Libya before I escaped. In Tunisia, I experienced racism and violence. They don’t sell you food or water, they steal your money and beat you,” says Y., 27.
He is one of 184 people rescued in four operations by #LifeSupportSAR in July.
“Today I am happy because I am alive, but it was not easy. I left my family behind in Cameroon,” Y. continues. “Not being able to see my mother, my father, my siblings – you lose a piece of your heart when you love your family so much and you have to leave.”
On board #LifeSupportSAR, Y. told us his story. No one should be forced to leave their family, or experience the violence reported in Tunisia and Libya.
