250 distressed migrants rescued from international waters were forcibly returned to Libya from Malta.

Alarm Phone said they are now imprisoned in Benghazi fearing  they will suffer more violent abuse.

“The 250 people were forcibly returned to #Libya from #Malta Search and Rescue zone! They are now imprisoned in #Benghazi. We fear they will suffer more violent abuse. We hope they will one day reach a place where they can live safely. These crimes at sea must end!”

Before their rescue, Alarm Phone had raised the alarm about their precarious situation on the sea. “250 lives at risk in the Central Med!

Alarm Phone is in contact with ~250 people in distress who are trying to escape from #Libya. They say they saw a #Frontex drone above them and fear interception by the Libyan forces.

“They need rescue to a safe place in #Europe!

The ~250 people in international waters were taken aboard a Libyan militia vessel that has abducted escaping people at sea before. We fear a #pushback is in the making. The people need to be disembarked at a safe place, which cannot be in #Libya!”
