An unspecified number of Nigerian migrants have been deported from Austria and Sweden.

The flight touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja at 9:40 this morning (Thursday June 15, 2023)

deportationwatch disclosed this via its verified  Twitter handle @deportationwat1 and a brief chat with us.

“Charterdeportation from Austria and Sweden to Nigeria

The Smartwings flight left Vienna at 5 this morning and will arrive in Abuja at 09:35 local time.

“Among others, a young man from a small town in western Austria is on the flight. His football club fought until the end for him to stay.”

Online search shows that no Nigerian government agency working in the area of migration- Nigeria Immigration Service, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission and the Foreign Affairs Ministry has said anything about the exercise.

Nigeria Immigration Service had at various times denied knowledge of deportation of the citizens even when presented with incontrovertible evidence.

Deportees have always been dumped and left unattended to at the airport by the Nigerian authorities.

It took series of reports by our founder and foremost  migration journalist in the country, Innocent Duru @InnocentDuru10 to make the government pay some attention to migrants deported during the coronavirus period.

The attitude of the government officials raises questions about what they do with budgetary allocations meant to attend to deportees, IDPs among others.
