Refugees In Libya condemns UNHCR representative’s comment at Agadez refugee camp
Refugees In Libya has condemned the comment of a UNHCR representative during a visit to the Agadez refugee camp.
The UNHCR visitor from Geneva Rovinderini Minnecdiola, had told the refugees that they would not be a priority of the UN agency.
Refugees In Libya in a statement condemned the remark, describing it as shocking.
The statement reads:
“YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BE A PRIORITY!” These shocking words were spoken by Mrs. Rovinderini Minnecdiola, representing @Refugees delegation from Geneva, at the Agadez Humanitarian Center (Niger) — in response to the @refugeesniger.
538-day consecutive protest at the so-called humanitarian center, which has housed vulnerable children and families for over eight years without any meaningful progress in their lives. How can anyone address people living in such harsh conditions as if they were spoiled children? The disrespect and arrogance shown in this moment speak volumes about the current state of the UN agency’s work — a complete lack of empathy and understanding for those most in need, sadly something we witness far too often. We invite everyone to listen carefully to the justification offered by this UNHCR delegate — clearly unfit for her role.
