As Refugees In Niger held its 508th peaceful protest in Agadez today, a media personality and staunch member of the group, Yousef Ismail, has made it clear to concerned international organisations across the globe that it is never a solution to keep ignoring the refugees.

Yousef Ismail, made this known in a post on his X handle @yousef_ism58349.

The peaceful protest by refugees in Agadez enters its 508th day, he said, adding that “this is sufficient proof that ignoring them is not a solution. These people have rights, and these rights must be respected.”

In another post, he made reference to some pictures where the refugees stood carrying placards bearing different inscriptions. “This is how refugees in Agadez face their uncertain fate every morning, with this smile, hoping that things will change for the better someday, despite the neglect of humanitarian organizations.”

Yousef in another tweet rhetorically asked “how long will this endless silence continue? The refugees in Agadez, Niger, have been protesting for over a year and a half, demanding their rights and relocation to a safe place to save what remains of their lives. The situation here is extremely dire.”

Describing the situation in Agadez, he said: “When we speak of Agadez, we speak of injustice, of oppressive policies, of abandonment of people in the middle of the desert. They are refugees, 503 days of peaceful protest demanding their rights.”
