UK jails immigration lawyer, seizes £700,000 of her assets
The United Kingdom has jailed an immigration lawyer Flora Mendes for allegedly conning 19 victims. Flora also had her assets worth £700,000 seized.
The UK Home Office disclosed this today, May 3, 2024 on its X platform.
The post reads: “A bogus immigration lawyer has been jailed for seven-and-a-half years and had £700,000 of her assets seized. Flora Mendes conned 19 victims into paying for fraudulent immigration applications with no chance of succeeding. If you break the rules, you will face justice.”
Prior to Flora’s sentence, the UK had warned people facilitating illegal jobs for migrants in the UK to desist from doing so. “People-smugglers sell migrants the lie that they can work in the UK. The reality is that they can’t. Those found to be working illegally or facilitating this crime will face justice.”
Earlier, May 1, 2024 to be precise, the UK Home Office announced that 44 people had been removed from the country. It said: “Today we removed 44 more people with no right to be in the UK on one of our regular returns flights. This included foreign criminals with combined prison sentences of more than 61 years, for offences including gun and knife crime.”
