Five children, six pregnant women, 31 other distressed migrants saved by Tunisia
Tunisia has saved 42 migrants comprising five children, six pregnant women, and 31 other distressed migrants near Sfax.
Alarm Phone an organisation that provides independent support for people crossing the Mediterranean Sea to the EU in a post had raised the alarm about the safety of the migrants. “We were informed about a boat in distress near #Sfax. The sea is rough & the waves high – the boat is at risk of capsizing. According to the people, there are 6 pregnant women and 5 children on board. Their situation is very urgent, rescue now!”
The organization in a subsequent post announced that the migrants had been saved and taken back to shore. “According to Tunisian authorities the group was intercepted and taken back to shore! We are glad that the people survived, but #Tunisia is not a safe country, so we keep fearing for their wellbeing. Everyone should be free to flee and move without risking their lives!”
