Sea-Watch International has announced that its rescue ship, Aurora rescued 42 people including a baby from unseaworthy rubber boat.

Announcing the feat, Sea-Watch International said: “Today, our Aurora rescued 42 people  from an unseaworthy rubber boat, among them one tiny baby. We are happy and relieved!

“Meanwhile, the authorities are once again trying their best to make the lives of the rescued as difficult as possible by forcing us to disembark in Augusta, the approximately furthest port we can reach with our ship. This practice must end.”

Sea-Watch International had earlier said that “Last night, our Sea-Watch 5 rescued 67 people and we now have 101 people on board, including 24 minors & 3 children. Yesterday, the Italian authorities assigned us the far north port of La Spezia. We continue to request a closer port, so all can disembark safely as soon as possible. We have 101 survivors on board, but the Italian authorities demand we sail 4 days to La Spezia. So we called on an Italian juvenile court to allow us into a closer port. Now minors & relatives will disembark in Pantelleria, Sicily. We demand everyone to be able to go ashore!”
