We reached over 3 million people with cash and voucher assistance in 124 countries and territories in 2024- IOM
The International Organization for Migration, IOM, says it reached more than 3 million people with cash and voucher assistance in 124 countries and territories in 2024.
The organisation disclosed this in a statement posted on is website.
The statement reads:
“As the United Nations migration agency, IOM aims to increase and leverage the use of cash-based interventions (CBI) as a key enabler to improving access of migrants, displaced populations and other affected communities to basic needs and enhancing their resilience in situations of crisis, transition, recovery and development. In 2024, IOM reached more than 3 million people with cash and voucher assistance in 124 countries and territories. IOM implemented CBI across humanitarian, development and peace operations.
“The IOM CBI Annual Report and Case Studies 2024 provides more details on IOM’s CBI throughout the year and features case studies from 42 IOM missions, shedding light on good practices and lessons learned. The case studies highlight several good practices for successful CBI, emphasizing the importance of community engagement, inclusivity, gender mainstreaming and strong coordination.”
The UN agency noted that the case studies highlight that early and inclusive community engagement, along with strong complaint and feedback mechanisms, ensures relevant assistance and empowers communities to voice concerns. Effective coordination with local authorities, financial service providers and humanitarian actors streamlines delivery, avoids duplication and aligns with broader needs.
Inclusive approaches enable meaningful participation of vulnerable groups, such as persons with disabilities, through consultations and accessible distributions. “Gender mainstreaming efforts show that cash assistance and skills development can empower women and enhance their role in decision-making while complementary activities boost the impact and sustainability of CBI, fostering resilience and self-reliance.”
