Jan Egeland expresses concerns about situation in Al Fasher
Secretary General of the Norwegian Refugee Council, Jan Egeland, has expressed concern about the situation in Al Fasher, Darfur.
Posting on his X handle, @NRC_Egeland, he said: “The horror stories from Al Fasher, Darfur keeps worsening: “Our NRC colleagues on the ground now receive and support hundreds of deeply traumatized and exhausted children reaching our base in Tawila after days of walking through the desert.
“They arrive terrified of the armed groups that killed family members and chased many of them as they fled. Too many were separated from their parents during the chaos of flight. Countless parents have gone missing, been detained or killed.”
Concluding, he said: “We appeal to all with influence in this deep crisis to enable our safe and unconditional access into Al Fasher with lifesaving relief, and the safe and unhindered escape for all civilians in and from the area.”
