Sixty three people from Tantan, Syria in distress
Sixty three people from Tantan and Syria are in distress, Alarm Phone said in a post on its X handle.
Forty two of the people are from Tantan while 21 in Syria.
“SOS in the #Atlantic!”, Alarm Phone wrote announcing the predicament of the people from Tantan.
“We are in contact with 42 people in distress departed from #Tantan. The situation on board is alarming, and Moroccan authorities, informed since yesterday, are delaying the rescue operation. Every effort must be made to find them!”
According to relatives, Alarm Phone said “the ~42 people were returned to the mainland. We do not know where exactly and by whom. Unfortunately we have no information on the health of the group, nor on the one death at sea reported to us by the travellers.”
earlier, Alarm Phone said: “SOS ~21 people from #Syria in distress! Cypriot authorities claimed to have rescued the group this morning, but did not tell us where they were brought to. Where are they?
“We still haven’t been able to confirm where the people are and if they have arrived safely to #Cyprus. Relatives have no news and authorities only say they rescued them, but do not say where they are now. We fear that they have been #PushedBack.”
Despite JRCC Larnaca confirming the people were rescued, Alarm Phone said: “we have received the news that they are now in Syria. We condemn the violent & criminal actions of the Cypriot coastguard, who endanger lives through illegal pusbacks! #SyriaNotSafe.”
