DCIM raids Salmani, Ard Al-Harassa areas in Benghazi, apprehends 88 Bangladeshis, others

The Department for Combating Irregular Migration in Libya (DCIM) has apprehended  88 Bangladeshis and other nationals after raiding  Salmani, and  Ard Al-Harassa areas.

The Bangladeshi nationals, 29 in number, were arrested  after raiding a ‘safe house’ in Benghazi.

This was according to information provided by Migrant Rescue Watch.

 The information said: “DCIM in response to report raided in Ard Al-Harassa area (Benghazi) a ‘safe house’ used by undocumented Bangladeshi #migrants awaiting boat crossing to EU. During op 29 Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended.

“DCIM officers seized also at the location cash in various currencies, several passports, mobile phones and illicit drugs known as “Ecstasy”.

In a separate operation DCIM raided in Salmani area (Benghazi) a site used by undocumented #migrants of sub-Saharan nationalities and apprehended 59 individuals. All transferred to Qanfoudah Immigration Detention Center for legal action.

On the other hand, Libyan Coast Guard rescued from a capsized boat off the coast of Dafiniyah a group of #migrants of different nationalities. All disembarked in Misrata fishing port.

Upon provision of humanitarian and medical assistance by Libyan Red Crescent the group was transferred to DCIM custody.
