One missing as merchant vessel rescues distressed people
One person among 37 people who fled from Tobruk, Libya, is reported missing.
A report by AlarmPhone said the people were adrift and in the Egyptian SAR zone but were rescued by a merchant vessel.
The yet to be identified person was declared missing after others were rescued.
The announcement by Alarm Phone said: “One person missing in the central #Mediterranean. 37 people, who fled from #Tobruk in #Libya, contacted us when in distress at sea. They were adrift in the Egyptian SAR zone. Eventually, a merchant vessel rescued them. However, one person went overboard.
“We call on authorities to search for the missing person! Survivors are to be embarked in #Egypt, the merchant vessel is moving to Port Said. Authorities need to grant a safe port, which is not in Egypt! The merchant vessel NORTHERNLIGHT continues to move to Egypt. While we are relieved that this group was rescued, we fear for their safety in #Egypt. They should have been brought to a safe port! 3/
