Militias fire live bullets at migrants, refugees
Distressed migrants and refugees were fired with live round by militias along the eastern coast of Libya.
This was according to information released by Refugees In Libya.
The information reads: “Yesterday (April 17, 2025), along the eastern coast of Libya, migrants and refugees, clearly shipwrecked and defenseless, were met with gunfire from militias.
Militiamen, armed with Kalashnikov rifles, maneuvered violently around the survivors, shouted at them to turn off the engine. Instead of offering help they fired live rounds at them, intimidating, terrorizing, and endangering already desperate lives.
“These are not random criminals. They are part of the official and semi-official militias who have become the beneficiaries of European Union funding, supported under the pretext of “border control” and “migration management’’.
“European taxpayers’ money is not saving lives, it is enabling acts of terror against the most vulnerable.
These militias who receive equipment, training, and political legitimacy are shooting at men, women, and children with a total impunity knowing that no one is willing to hold them accountable.”
