Sixty eight people in urgent distress off the coast of Libya
Sixty eight people are in urgent distress off the coast of Libya, AlarmPhone, an organization that provides independent support for people crossing the Mediterranean has said.
The group, Alarm Phone said “called us about their distress, saying that their boat was severely overcrowded and full of water, just 9 nautical miles north of Abu Kammash. We hope the so-called Libyan coast guard will intervene without delay!
“We are still in contact with the 68 people in severe distress! They say that their engine isn’t working anymore as their boat is full of water. We urge authorities to rescue before it’s too late!
“We can confirm that the boat with 68 people was intercepted by the so-called #Libyan coastguard back to #Libya. We truly hope that the people will one day find protection and freedom.”
