CID arrests Libyan human trafficker, frees seven undocumented Pakistanis

CID in Libya has arrested a Libyan human trafficker and freed seven undocumented migrants of Pakistani nationality.

Migrants Rescue Watch said the arrest was carried out by the CID in Derna following a complex international investigation.

 It said the freed Pakistani nationals were held captive for ransom.

Migrant Rescue Watch said: “The victims attempted to emigrate illegally to Italy and were kidnapped during a “hook-up” with presumed facilitator who later handed them over to a trafficker in Bomba area. The trafficker demanded 300,000 LYD (ca. 61,500 USD) from the families and threatened to kill the victims if his demands were not met. Upon obtaining credible info police jointly with military raided the location and freed all victims and arrested the trafficker with an extensive criminal record.”

During the raid, Migrant Rescue Watch said  police seized also large quantities of alcohol, unregistered firearms and white weapons. “The case was referred to public prosecution on charges of kidnapping, alcohol trafficking, possession of weapons without a license, illegal immigration, concealment and resisting security forces.”
