Italy, US strengthening Tunisia’s Guard National with coast guard boats – Jihed
Italy and the US are strengthening Tunisia’s Guard National with coast guard boats and training, a researcher who goes by the name Jihed on X said.
Jihed noted that Tunisia’s naval fleet is expanding rapidly: 2 boats from Japan, 3 from Italy, and 6 more incoming (3 from the US and 3 from Italy).
This influx, since 2011, highlights Tunisia’s increasing role as Europe’s border guard.
What’s the real agenda behind these boats?

Since 2011, he said, nearly 70naval vessels have been given to Tunisia,not to meet its real needs—like hospital, schools,infrastructure but to intercept migrant boats for Europe. Tunisia needs boats for rescue,not for violent interceptions. We have become Europe’s southern gatekeeper.”
