Twelve dead, many others missing after boat capsized in the English Channel
No fewer than 12 migrants have reportedly died after their boat capsized in the English Channel.
Many others, according to Seebrüecke International were still missing as at the time of sharing the information.
Seebrüecke said: “On Tuesday, a boat with around 70 people on the move on board capsized in the English Channel. At least 12 people died. More people are still missing. Our thoughts are with the deceased, their families and friends.
“Cold water temperatures and strong currents and winds, as well as the many ships travelling a very narrow route, make crossing the Channel unpredictable and dangerous.”
Seebrüecke emphatically noted that the fact that people repeatedly embark on dangerous flight routes is a consequence of the European policy of sealing off borders.
It said: “This border policy kills. Whether in the Mediterranean or on the English Channel – Europe must finally create legal and safe passage and freedom of movement for all people!”
