Ex-Zawiya Coast Guard commander assassinated, Red Crescent buries 22 migrants

A former Zawiya Coast Guard Commander, Abd al-Rahman Milad, has been assassinated.

The news about his murder started as a rumour early yesterday, September 1, 2024 but was later confirmed by Migrant Rescue Watch.

Confirming the murder, Migrant Rescue Watch said: “The death of former Zawiya Coast Guard Commander Abd al-Rahman Milad, nicknamed “Al Bidja” has been confirmed. He was assassinated today in his car by unknown gunmen in Sayyad area.”

In a another development, Migrant Rescue Watch announced that Libyan Red Crescent (West Zawiya Branch) jointly with Ambulance & Emergency Services buried 22 unidentified bodies of #migrants at the cemetery for foreigners in Sorman. “The bodies were recently recovered from the sea. (ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION IS A PATH TO DEATH❗)”

The organisation also I formed that the CID in Al-Bayda arrested 3 Egyptian nationals for trafficking in illicit drugs (hashish), sale of weapons and possession of forged documents. “All accused transferred to Al-Bayda Security Directorate pending completion of criminal investigation.”
