Italy -Albania Protocol: UNHCR planning to participate not monitor activities- Sea Watch International
Sea Watch International has accused UN refugee agency, UNHCR, of planning to participate and to not monitor the Italy-Albania Protocol activities.
UNHCR earlier announced that it was out to undertake monitoring Italy-Albania Protocol to safeguard, promote fundamental human rights.
But Sea Watch International in a post on its X handle said: “With the planned centers in #Albania, Italy is pioneering border #externalization. Now, the #UNHCR is planning to participate, claiming “to monitor.” But it’s actually complicity in externalization policies on the backs of the people it is supposed to protect.”
UNHCR had earlier said it will monitor the implementation of the Italy-Albania Protocol, to help ensure that the Protocol is implemented in a manner that safeguards the rights and dignity of those subject to it.
