RPSI supports Cameroonian refugees in Nigerian prison
Refugee Prisoners Support Initiative (RPSI) has provided support for Cameroonian refugees in Ogoja Prison.
Ogoja is in Cross River State, South-south Nigeria.
The support was the first of its kind by RPSI, according to a statement by the chairman, Comrade Angelbert NDE.
The statement reads: “Southern Cameroons Refugee Union (SCRU) is glad to announce to you that within the SLAP (SCRU LEGAL AID PROJECT) framework, our prison mission, comprising Comrade Ako Daniel Ako (Dr Clean case), Madame Catherine and Madam Atigi Delphine, carried out their task very successfully to the glory of God, on 17/07/2024, as directed.
“Our prisoner-brothers and sister, receiving this support, were overwhelmed with joy and sent warm words of gratitude to SCRU and all refugees for thinking about them:- especially those who went the extra mile to make the materialization of this maiden outing of SCRU ‘s “Refugee Prisoners’ Support Initiative”- (RPSI), possible. RPSI is carried out within the framework of SCRU LEGAL AID PROJECT (SLAP)”
The prison mission had earlier contemplated and suggested that they do some more rounds of fundraising to swell the sum so that prevailing high market prices do not have too heavy a toll on the “quantity of food that will end up with our brothers and sister; – but the desperate calls from prison for an immediate assistance compelled a swifter u-turn emergency response and this is what we got for our refugee prison brothers and sister.”
Appreciating and listing the supporters of the humanitarian gesture, the statement said: “You would recall that the following made the following financial contributions to make this possible: Pa Aworbit Abel 72,000 naira; Pa Martin Nchung 5000 naira; Comrade Angelbert NDE 20,000 naira; Comrade Felicity Akon Ameh 5000 naira; Comrade Delphine Atigi 5000 naira.
“20,000 naira had earlier been shared as cash support to our prisoner brothers and sister. More details pertaining to detailed breakdown of financial expenditure, should be coming up, soon, from our prison mission.”
Seeking divine help for the benefactors,. Comrade Angelbert prayed: “The God of foreigners and refugees will prosper this seed of sacrifice you (donors) have sown. We wish to inform refugees and the general public that SCRU will carry out this exercise as frequently as need arises; and as possibilities can permit.
“We want to also inform refugees and the public, that SCRU offers special prayers for all SCRU donors, worldwide, under the program; “SCRU Refugee Weekly Prayers for all SCRU Donors”; and that begins with this donations.
“We thank our prison mission, for carrying our this mission, very successfully and representing SCRU in a manner that makes us all, proud. We thank the prison authorities of the Ogoja prison, for always opening their gates to receive SCRU and her delegated teams and for their kind treatment of our Southern Cameroons refugees.
“We thank all SCRU members from Abuja, Adagom I settlement, Lagos, Ajasoor, boki Axis, Anambra, Adagom III settlement, Ikom, Calabar, Akwa Ibom, Obudu-Sankwala-Bebi-Otanga-Amana Axis, Okende settlement; for all their unflinching support.
“This is yet another strong message that when a people are united, they can achieve anything!”
