Women for Refugee Women has decried the condition at Harmondsworth detention centre in the UK.

Women for Refugee Women is an organization that support women seeking safety in the UK to rebuild their lives on their own terms.

“Conditions at Harmondsworth detention centre found to be ‘shocking and dangerous’, the organisation said.

Women for Refugee Women said a recent inspection raised extremely concerning findings, including ‘imminent risk of harm’ to those held there.

“We urge the new Government to end immigration detention NOW.

The inspection it said found:

❌That the facility was ‘decrepit’
❌Widespread violence
❌Several serious suicide attempts
❌Serious overcrowding

The inspector raised concerns to the then Home Secretary, James Cleverly, but ‘received no response’.

As the new Government begins to rebuild the broken asylum system, we urge it to lead with compassion and care.

Detention:
❌Causes HUGE harm to individuals
❌Is extremely expensive

“People seeking safety should have their claims heard as they live within our communities.”
