106 survivors safely disembark in Ortona, Italy
One hundred and six people who were rescued from two distressed boats have disembarked in Ortona, Italy,
SOS Humanity (International) disclosed this while seeking support for the medical care of the survivors.
Announcing the disembarkation, SOS Humanity International said ” All 106 survivors rescued on 20 June from two boats in distress at sea have now safely disembarked in #Ortona, Italy. After health checks, the first to disembark were those with special medical needs, followed by unaccompanied minors, women, families and men.”
Yet again, it said Italian authorities assigned an unnecessarily distant port for the disembarkation: “five days’ sail from the location of the second rescue. This practice violates the right of those rescued to a prompt #disembarkation at a place of safety.”
The NGO went on to wish the 106 survivors all the best for their onward journey, and “for their future! P.S.: With €123, you can provide one day’s medical care for survivors on board. Donate now! 👉sos-humanity.org/en/donation/”
