A shipwreck on international water has claimed one life.

11 people, according to AlarmPhone survived.

The remaining 58 people are still missing.

“SHIPWRECK in the Central MED!” AlarmPhone wrote as heading of the report regarding the shipwreck.

Today (June 17, 2024) around noon, Alarm Phone said “we learned the horrific news that a sailing boat with about 70 people on board had capsized 120 miles off the Italian coast. So far, there are 11 survivors, one dead body and all others remain missing.

“We were in contact with relatives searching for the group since yesterday afternoon. According to the relatives, their last contact to the group was on Thursday at 10pm. The people in distress reported it was very windy and that water was coming into the boat.

“We alerted @GuardiaCostiera yesterday at 4:14pm CEST. When we called MRCC #Rome, they told us they didn’t have information about rescue operations & would not share, whether they would go to search for the distressed boat or not.”

Continuing, it said: “Contrary to what @GuardiaCostiera claims in their press release, they were well aware of the distress since yesterday afternoon and not only after the May-Day of a French pleasure boat. We believe they knowingly delayed rescue!

“What did the @GuardiaCostiera do after our alert? Would the people still be alive if a proper seach & rescue operation would have been conducted at the time of our alert? We need a thorough investigation into the events to understand why the people were left to die!

“We send our deepest condolences to the loved ones of those who died or remain missing. The borders of the #FortressEurope are taking the lives of those who are trying to seek safety. There is no justice. We need to put an end to the mass killings at sea!”
