Take responsibility, SOS Humanity tells future EU Parliament
People who will form future European Union Parliament have been asked to create safe route for refugees.
SOS Humanity International made the call ahead of the EU election holding this week.
It said: “The EU elections will be held this week. One key demand to the future EU Parliament: take responsibility, instead of closing the door! Rather than create safe routes for refugees, the EU cooperates with third countries like #Libya and #Tunisia to keep them away from Europe.
“By financing and supporting the Tunisian and so-called Libyan Coast Guards, the #EU ensures that people fleeing these countries are forced back and exposed to the gravest human rights violations.
“These include (sexualised) violence, modern-day slavery and so-called ‘#desertdumps’, where protection seekers are left to die in the desert. We demand an end to EU support for human rights violations!”
