Three hundred migrants arrive Lampedusa from Tunisia, Libya

A total of 300 people have arrived Lampedusa from Tunisia and Libya, Maldusa Project, an organization that facilitates freedom of movement on land and at sea has said.

The people according to Maldusa Project disembarked at Favaloro pier.

A statement by the organisation said: “After weeks without arrivals, several boats reached #Lampedusa from Tunisia & Libya, with about 300 people disembarking at the Favaloro pier. Among them, a group was supported by our friends of Nadir by @resqship_int and another by Maldusa.”

It added that 20 people departed from Tunisia on a small overcrowded wooden boat and were located by the aircraft COLIBRI2 by @PVolontaires about 50 nautical miles south of Lampedusa.

“We reached the group around 17:30 and sailed close by for some miles after providing life jackets.

“At nightfall, due to the instability of their unseaworthy boat, they boarded Maldusa ship for safety. At 23:00, only a few dozen miles from shore, they were embarked by the Italian coast guard.”

In the meanwhile, Maldusa Project said much has been happening in Tunisia. On 3 May, the organization noted that the camps in front of the IOM & UNHCR were violently evicted.
“We also denounce the rise of requests for massive expulsions of discriminated people who for months have found refuge in the olive groves around Sfax.”
