Researcher decries Tunisian media portrayal of Sub-Saharan migrants
A researcher who goes by the name Jihed on X platform, has condemned Tunisian media portrayal of Sub-Saharan migrants as tools used by Wagner in a conspiracy against Europe. Jihed disclosed this on his X handle.
He said: “Having followed #TunisianMedia closely these past weeks,I’m alarmed by the portrayal of Sub-Saharan migrants as tools used by Wagner in a conspiracy against Europe.Such dangerous xenophobia only misleads and divides. The discourse treats people as geopolitical pawns.
Recent proposals for a new detention centre between #AlAmra and Jbneniana, #Sfax mirror #Rwanda’s controversial dealings with the UK—pitched as economic opportunities.
Are we heading towards becoming a new Rwanda, where human rights are secondary to economic gains?”
Despite extensive viewing, Jihed said: “I’ve seen no media coverage on the harsh realities for Tunisians in European #detention_centres—no stories on the brutal conditions of weekly #deportations of our friends and our relatives or the desperate families seeking missing loved ones.
“Reflecting on the #Tunisian Revolution, I remember our fight for freedom of press and speech a struggle that paved the way for media to educate and unite, not to perpetuate fear and hostility.
You must honor sacrifices of Tunsians by standing against narratives that dehumanize.”
