Piantedosi Decree must be abolished- Seebrücke International
Seebrücke International, a German NGO that wants safe passages and an end of the criminalisation of civil sea rescue, has called for the abolition of Italy’s Piantedosi Decree.
The decree seeks to regulates NGO migrant rescue operations at sea,
A statement by the organization reads: “After the MSF civilian rescue ship #GeoBarents brought 249 people safely to shore, the ship was detained for 20 days by the Italian authorities. This is the 20th time that a civilian rescue ship has been detained under the Piantedosi Decree.
“The EU must finally end its cooperation with the so-called Libyan coastguard. It is unacceptable that civilian rescue ships are repeatedly detained on the basis of lies and that rescue capacities in the central Mediterranean are reduced as a result. The Piantedosi Decree must be abolished! We demand: #FreeTheFleet!”
