SOS Humanity exposes Italy, EU support for Libyan Coast Guard
SOS Humanity International has revealed that Italy, and EU are backing Libyan Coast Guard’s actions on international waters.
It alleged that “The patrol boat of the so-called Libyan Coast Guard which yesterday opened fire during a rescue was delivered by Italy and financed by the EU! This #EU support led to at least 1 person drowning & many being forced back to Libya in violation of international law.
“When our crew came to the aid of 3 boats, the patrol boat interrupted the rescue operation, leading to people in the water. The so-called #Libyan Coast Guard fired live ammunition close to people in the water. One person was left behind by the patrol boat and drowned.”
This boat, SOS Humanity said was delivered to #Libya by #Italy last summer. “How long will Europe finance human rights violations at its external border? We are outraged by the senseless loss of life, and call on Italy & the EU to cease support for the so-called Libyan Coast Guard immediately!
