Child labour: Woman sentenced to two-year imprisonment
A Nigerian woman, Precious Edet, has been sentenced to two years imprisonment for employing a child as domestic worker and inflicting grievous harm on the victim.
NAPTIP who saw to her prosecution said the feat was its second in a week.
A statement by the agency said: “The Federal High Court Port Harcourt on Friday 16th February 2024, convicted and sentenced PRECIOUS EDET (Female) under section 23(1)(b) and 23(2)(b) of the Trafficking in Persons Prohibition Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015 which criminalizes the employment of a child as domestic worker and inflicting grievous harm.
“The defendant was sentenced to 2 years imprisonment, fine of Two hundred thousand Naira only and compensation of One hundred thousand Naira to the victim.
“This marks the second conviction in one week for the use of children in domestic and exploitative work.Traffickers beware: justice will be served! ⚖️
