Borderline-europe, 40 others launch “Free the Pylos9′ campaign
Borderline-europe, and 40 other organizations have launched “Free the Pylos9′ campaign.
A statement by Borderline-europe said: Today, together with almost 40 other groups, we are launching the “Free the #Pylos9″ campaign for the nine people who were arrested as scapegoats after the terrible shipwreck in June 2023, in which more than 600 people died.”
Providing information about what gave rise to the campaign, Borderline-europe in a statement on its website said: “In the early hours of June 14, 2023, the overcrowded fishing boat “Adriana” sank in international waters about 50 miles off the port of Pylos, Greece. Hundreds of people drowned under the watchful eye of the Hellenic Coast Guard (HCG).
“Almost all of the 104 survivors were only rescued by a luxury yacht after the fishing boat sank. 82 bodies were recovered; Hundreds remain missing and are believed to have gone down with the ship. Nine of the survivors were arrested by Greek authorities and are wrongly accused of being responsible for the tragedy. We stand in solidarity with the prisoners.”
