SOS Humanity has cleared the air on Italian government’s allegations for detaining its rescue ship, Humanity 1.

It said: “Humanity 1 has been detained for 20 days. The next false claim by Italian authorities: that the presence of our ship caused more than 40 people fleeing an illegal Libyan pull-back to jump into the water. Yet our position data prove this accusation is entirely baseless.

“When @seawatchcrew’s Seabird 1 radioed from the air reporting people in the water, the Humanity 1 was still more than 5 kilometres away. “From this distance, it is impossible for a person on a small boat to identify a ship,” explains Captain Joachim.
