Amy Pope, António Guterres, UN family mourn colleagues
United Nations organisations across the globe have held a minute silence to mourn their colleagues killed in Gaza.
International Organization for Migration Chief, Amy Pope, UN Secretary General António Guterres took to their X handles to honour their late colleagues.
Amy Pope on behalf of IOM said: “Today, IOM joined the UN family to mark a moment of silence to honor and mourn colleagues who lost their lives on duty in Gaza.
“We stand tall with colleagues who continue to put their lives on the line everyday to provide humanitarian assistance.
Humanitarians are #NotATarget.”
On his part Secretary General of the UN António Guterres, regretted the number of the UN colleagues killed so far and assured that they would not be forgotten. “Today, the @UN family observed a moment of silence to mourn & honour our colleagues killed in Gaza,” he said.
Since the start of this conflict, Guterres said “more than 100 @UNRWA staff have lost their lives – the highest number of UN aid workers killed in a conflict in such a short time. They will never be forgotten.”
